Abstract:

The Texas State legislation has encouraged the implementation of advanced metering (smart metering or AMS), by directing the Public Utility Commission to establish a cost recovery mechanism for utilities that deploy smart meters and related networks. This document reports the status and efforts of Texas utilities to deploy AMI systems, benefits for the market, and identify barriers to implementation of AMI systems and recommendations made to address these barriers.
