Author:
Nicole Pennington, UtiliWorks Consulting, LLC; Darrell Caraway, City of Ruston, LA
Year:
2013
Abstract:

"In 2008, the City of Ruston employed UtiliWorks Consulting, LLC. to perform a utility-wide technology assessment. The outcome of the assessment demonstrated substation improvement opportunities for the consumers and the Utility by deploying an AMI system. The study further concluded Ruston’s return on investment would be greatly amplified if the City leveraged multiple systems including: Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS), PrePay. Additionally, it was determined that implementing some components of distribution automation, including upgrading antiquated substations, would reduce Ruston’s operating costs."
