Common Information Model (CIM) Conformity and Interoperability Test Procedure Development

Abstract:

Without a common language between applications in the back office, the cost and risk of a Smart Grid implementation increases. Operating costs following implementation also increase, as each nonstandard interface must be modified every time one of the applications using it is upgraded. Creation of interapplication messaging standards using the Common Information Model (CIM) has been hampered by the lack of conformity and interoperability test procedures. This report summarizes a standardized method for developing interoperability tests for International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard 61968 and for the development and implementation of a conformity/interoperability test harness.
