Abstract:

With utilities operating closer to capacity, the need for controlling system demand through load shedding, load control and other means is increasingly important. If utilities effectively use these techniques, they can lower operating losses, and increase system stability during peak loading conditions that typically occur over a 1-2 hour period each month, and may approach 30% of the system capacity. May also involve distributed generation or customer demand response.
