Development of a Smart Grid Lineman Workforce in NYS - This DOE sponsored program is designed to recruit, train, and employ line workers in New York to ensure that adequate numbers of line workers are trained and available with upgraded skills in clean-energy smart grid technologies to install, maintain, and support the electric power sector. The project will result in the training of over 800 current line workers (journeymen, current apprentices, groundhands, splicers, and equipment operators) as well as up to 450 new apprenticeship positions.
