Project Summary:

Puget Sound Energy (PSE), a Bellevue based Utility company, provides electric services to about one million customers in the Western Washington area [1, 2]. PSE used smart meters by Itron, which transmit energy usage data 30 times per hour using the Cellnet data communication technology [1]. PSE’s extensive analysis and evaluation of two-way technology identified the top scenarios for transitioning to an AMI system, as well as a need for continued evaluation. Further analysis was expected to occur through 2013 to strengthen the business case for migrating to AMI and to more thoroughly identify the preferred system architecture and functional requirements of an AMI system [3].
