Reliant Energy Retail Services, LLC, located in Houston, Texas, has been awarded $19.9 million in funding to develop a smarter energy grid, for which the efforts began in 2010. The U.S. Department of Energy selected Reliant Energy as one of 100 companies to receive federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The stimulus funds will be used to install a suite of smart meter products, enabling customers to manage their electricity usage, promote energy efficiency, and lower overall energy costs.
