Project Summary:
Denton County Electric Cooperative, located in Corinth, Texas, has been awarded $17.2 million in federal funds to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy chose Denton County Electric Cooperative as one of 100 companies selected nationwide as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The proposed smart-grid plan began in 2010 and calls for the installation of a 140,000 smart meter network that includes meters, two-way communications, computer systems, and a distribution network that will provide accurate, timely information about customer electricity consumption.
