Woodruff Electric, located in Forrest City, Arkansas, has been rewarded $2.3 million in funding to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy selected Woodruff Electric as one of 100 companies to receive federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The stimulus funds will be used beginning in 2010, to install smart meters for more than 13,000 electric cooperative customers that will provide time-of-use data, help monitor demand, and reduce outages.
