Central Vermont Public Service (CVPS) based in Rutland, VT, serves about 159,000 electric customers for whom the SmartPower program is designed. The program implements advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and smart grid in Vermont. The total estimated investment reaches about $40 million [1, 2]. CVPS started its regulatory review in 2008. The company installed backhaul telecommunication systems in 2008, and Meter Data Management System (MDMS) in early 2009. In 2010, the company plans to integrate MDM to its legacy IT network, as well as installing AMI meters. The meter deployment is expected to complete by 2013 [3].
Now, CVPS has chosen Siemens energy to integrate its IT network with eMeter corporation’s EnergyIP meter data management system (MDMS) [2, 4]. EnergyIP allows CVPS to improve its operational efficiency through use of AMI data, peak load management, energy conservation and customer satisfaction [2].
