Tri State Electric Membership Corporation, located in McCaysville, Georgia, has been awarded $1.1 million in funding to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy selected Tri State Electric Membership Corporation as one of 100 companies to receive federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The project began in 2010 and will use the stimulus funds to install more than 15,000 smart meters to enable consumers to make use of dynamic pricing options.
