Wellsboro Electric Company, located in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, will receive $431,000 in funding to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy selected Wellsboro Electric Company as one of 100 companies to receive federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The stimulus funds will be used to implement the "Smart Choices" project, which will deploy smart meter network systems throughout the utility's service territory beginning from 2010.
