Project Summary:
PPL Electric Utilities Corp., located in Allentown, Pennsylvania, has been awarded $19 million in funding to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy selected PPL Electric Utilities Corp. as one of 100 companies to receive federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The stimulus funds will be used to deploy a distribution management system and smart grid technologies to monitor and control the grid in real-time, improve system reliability and energy resource optimization, and provide the infrastructure for distributed generation and broader energy efficiency efforts which started in 2010.
