PJM Interconnection, LLC, located in Norristown, Pennsylvania, has been awarded $12.6 million in funding to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy selected PJM Interconnection, LLC as one of 100 companies to receive federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The stimulus funds will be used to deploy over 90 phasor measurement units and other digital monitoring and analysis technologies across 10 states that will provide real-time data on the operating conditions of the transmission system, improving reliability and reducing congestion, the efforts for which began in 2010.
