Project Summary:

Progress Energy Service Company, LLC, located in Raleigh, North Carolina, has been awarded $200 million in funding to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy selected Progress Energy as one of 100 companies to receive federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Beginning in 2010, the stimulus funds are used to build a green Smart Grid virtual power plant through conservation, efficiency and advanced load shaping technologies, including installation of over 160,000 meters across its multi-state service area.
