Vermont Transco, LLC, located in Rutland, Vermont, has been awarded $68.9 million in funding to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy selected Vermont Transco as one of 100 companies to receive federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The stimulus funds will be used beginning in 2010, to expand the deployment of Vermont smart meters from the current 28,000 to 300,000, implement customer systems such as in-home displays and digitally controlled appliances, secure control systems for substations and generation facilities, and automate the electric distribution and transmission system grids.
