Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) serves 34,000 members and 37,279 retail meters in 74 towns in the northern part of Vermont. As of Aug 2010 when the co-operative started the project, VEC is currently communicating with nearly 30,500 smart meters via Advance Meter Infrastructure (AMI) technology, and is the first utility in Vermont to install and use the AMI system.
