New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, located in Plymouth, New Hampshire, has been rewarded $15.8 million in funding to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy selected New Hampshire Electric Cooperative as one of 100 companies to receive federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The stimulus funds will be used starting from the year 2010, to modernize the distribution and metering system by deploying advanced meters for all 75,000 members and installing a wide area telecom network consisting of microwave and fiber links throughout the service territory.
