The City of Anaheim in Anaheim, California was awarded $5.9 M in stimulus money by the U.S. Department of Energy to fund a smart grid. The City of Anaheim is one of only 6 utility companies in California to receive funding by the D.O.E. The smart grid funding will upgrade and enhance the city's smart grid network and demand response systems beginning in 2010, including installing 35,000 residential meters, as well as security and data systems, which will help reduce peak load and line losses.
