It has been prepared by a team of volunteers from the member companies of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). The purpose is to establish a common framework for discussing issues associated with the smart grid in a manner that answers the question, “What is Smart?” The context for this material is based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) description of an interoperable, standards-based, open architecture for an electricity supply chain.
