Abstract: | This white paper explains the modern grid using a systems view approach. This systems view introduces the preferred grid using five interdependent primary elements. Key success factors determine how the grid must perform and establish the foundation of success, around which the other four elements must interact. The performance required of the grid dictates its desired characteristics and determine which technologies to use. Metrics gauge success and tell us how to fine-tune the performance requirements. With such a perspective, we can address root issues and structure a total solution.
