"Electrification Qualification" produced "Electrification Roadmap" which called for 25% of light vehicle miles in the US to be electricity by 2020 and 75% by 2040. From various scenario dependent analyses this report illustrates that Smart Grid strategies will be necessary for catastrophic failure. According to this report, assessing the reliability of the Smart Grid in the presence of large numbers of PHEVs will have significant role.
