Flow Control using HTS Cable
Description: 

High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) cable is the high - capacity cable with very low impedance (VLI) which can improve transmission efficiency, reduce system losses and relieve grid congestion. It allows to achieve better power flow controllability through using a phase angle regulator (PAR) in series with a HTS cable, and to increase reliability by more flexibility in siting new generators that leads to more sources and fewer outages. However, fault management of the cable is different from conventional cables because of its unique characteristics.
Superconductor power cables provide the following advantages over conventional transmission and distribution systems:

- Increased grid reliability and security
- Very low impedance
- High power capacity at lower voltage
- Extended operating life
- Low environmental impact.
