Description:
Convertible Static Compensator (CSC) is a versatile device based on FACTS technology. It can be operated in four basic configurations: Static Synchronous Compensator, Static Synchronous Series Compensator, Unified Power Flow Controller, and Interline Power Flow Controller. According to [1], "A CSC is a UPFC that also has an interline power flow controller for bypassing transmission congestion at a substation or interface". The device has been put to use at the NYPA's(New York Power Authority) Marcy substation. Applications:
The applications of the convertible static compensator include but are not limited to system stability, load compensation, Power flow control and Power factor correction. References:
