California Utility Announces Smart Grid Demonstration Project
Southern California Edison (SCE) is planning a demonstration project, scheduled to launch on June 30, 2013, that will include electric-distribution infrastructure, substations, residential homes, cyber security networks, battery energy storage systems, and EV charging stations at the University of California, Irvine.
College Installs Smart Meters
Paul Smith’s College has installed smart meters in all of the campus’ 15 residence halls to let students see how much impact their energy conservation efforts are having. Currently, a television in the Student Center displays the energy updates in real time and eventually the information will be available on the Internet.
Enel Green Power Posts Gains
Enel has announced that the total revenues of the Enel Green Power Group amounted to 2.7 billion euros in 2012, an eight percent increase over its 2011 totals. The increases it attributed to electricity sales resulting from higher output in Iberia, Latin America, North America, and the rest of Europe.
Cyan Selected for India Smart Grid Project
Cyan’s CyLec smart electricity metering technology has been deployed as part of a smart grid pilot in India. John Cronin, Cyan executive chairman says, “We are delighted that one of our key strategic partners has implemented a further pilot in India, demonstrating an additional step in the adoption of CyLec as a standard for smart electricity metering across India.”
Delmarva Power Eyes New Transmission Lines
Delmarva Power has announced plans to host a community meeting on February 20 to provide information about the utility’s proposal to build a new high-voltage transmission line between Millington’s Church substation and the Wye Mills substation. The community meeting will give the public an opportunity to ask questions about the $31.3 million project that is designed to enhance electric service reliability on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, especially for customers in Queen Anne’s, Talbot and Caroline counties.
Itron Partners with Qualcomm
Itron is collaborating with Qualcomm Technologies on a next-generation smart energy platform that will combine Itron’s OpenWay smart meters with Qualcomm Technologies’ Gobi MDM8x15 multi-mode modem and integrated application processor.
