California Utility Announces Smart Grid Demonstration Project

Southern California Edison (SCE) is planning a demonstration project, scheduled to launch on June 30, 2013, that will include electric-distribution infrastructure, substations, residential homes, cyber security networks, battery energy storage systems, and EV charging stations at the University of California, Irvine.

College Installs Smart Meters

Paul Smith’s College has installed smart meters in all of the campus’ 15 residence halls to let students see how much impact their energy conservation efforts are having. Currently, a television in the Student Center displays the energy updates in real time and eventually the information will be available on the Internet.

Enel Green Power Puts Photovoltaic Plants in Greece

Enel Green Power (EGP) has placed 19 new photovoltaic plants into operation, which has a total installed capacity of 42 MW. An additional 15 MW has been put into service by ESSE, a joint venture between EGP and Sharp, bringing EGP’s total installed capacity in Greece to approximately 290 MW.
