Standardizing the Classification of Intelligence Levels and Performance Of Electricity Supply Chains
ABB, Cooper Power Systems, Eaton, Emerson, GE, Nexans, Rockwell, Automation, Siemens, Square D, Thomas and Betts, National Electrical Manufactureres Association (NEMA)

This white paper describes the seminal structure of a framework for characterizing the intelligence levels of electricity equipment in terms of measurable and technology-neutral attributes. It has been prepared by a team of volunteers from the member companies of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). The purpose is to establish a common framework for discussing issues associated with the smart grid in a manner that answers the question, “What is Smart?” The context for this material is based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) description of an interoperable, standards-based, open architecture for an electricity supply chain.
