Advanced Substation Gateway
An Advanced substation gateway -- also known as Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP) Gateway -- is an advanced computing platform that serves as a single point of access to all intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) in the distribution system. In addition to streamlining the flow of data and automation process, the SMP Gateway serves as protocol converter, data concentrator, terminal server, automation processor, and time synchronizer. SMP Gateways are located in between the SCADA and RTUs, performing as both a master and a slave device.
Advanced Substation Gateway can be used as a protocol translator, a data concentrator, and a terminal server.
