Substation Automation (SA)
Description:

Substation Automation (SA) is a system in which enable an electric utility to remotely monitor, control and coordinate the distribution component installed in the substation. SA comprises of smart sensors with integrated communication technologies and control of substation equipment. SA will improve electric service reliability, ensure rapid and most importantly, correct reactions to unpredictable events in the network while reducing operations and maintenance costs.

Applications:

Substation Automation (SA) provides local control, remote control, and monitoring at the substation level. It also allows for intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) to provide human-machine interface for local control, monitoring, and system configuration. In this manor the retrieval of substation information available and various users are linked to the IEDs and a local network to lay the foundation for higher-level remote functions.
