Convertible Static Compensator (CSC)
Convertible Static Compensator (CSC) is a versatile device based on FACTS technology. It can be operated in four basic configurations: Static Synchronous Compensator, Static Synchronous Series Compensator, Unified Power Flow Controller, and Interline Power Flow Controller. According to , "A CSC is a UPFC that also has an interline power flow controller for bypassing transmission congestion at a substation or interface". The device has been put to use at the NYPA's(New York Power Authority) Marcy substation.
The applications of the convertible static compensator include but are not limited to system stability, load compensation, Power flow control and Power factor correction.
